Attendance Policy

Students are expected to be present in school on all working days and attend all classes and activities as laid out in the school calendar and the time table.

Optimus school calendar has generous school holidays. So Parents are advised not to ask for further leave for their children. Because the holidays are generous no student can risk attendance to fall below 85%. Should this happen, the students’ promotion to the next class could be jeopardised.

Should leave be required because of sickness of one or two days a letter to the appropriate class teacher on the return of the student to school should be sent. For longer absences please notify the class teacher and furnish a medical certificate with a note to the Principal on the students return. Boarders should also notify the Head of Boarding.

Leave for any other reason needs to be applied for in writing to the Principal in advance. The Principal may or may not grant such leave.

Dress Code Uniform

Optimus considers that a uniform dress code is necessary to reinforce in students a pride in their own appearance and to maintain and enhance the positive image of the school in the community. Functionality, issues of equality and expenses are some of the factors that have contributed to the establishment of the Optimus Dress Code. The school will prescribe the appropriate uniform for different ages and different activities.

All pupils are to be neatly dressed, in school uniforms during school hours, school trips and official gatherings. Their attire and appearance must be respectful to themselves and others.

When not it uniform, variations in style are permissible till the limits of good taste and sensibility are not trespassed. Cosmetics will be acceptable only when they are subtle in nature and hair styles should not be bizarre. As a matter of precaution, costly jewellery is not permissible for the students.

Desirable Student behaviour

One of the most important objectives of the Optimus is to foster the cultivation of self-discipline among its students. We believe that acceptable norms of behaviour can be achieved by suitable adult examples, consistent high expectations and a firm insistence on good conduct.

The most essential rule for conduct at Optimus is ‘Behave Sensibly’. A clear list of Do’s and Do not’s will be given to all at the beginning of the academic year. If any student finds it difficult to judge what is sensible, faculty members will be pleased to help.

Students observing courteous behaviour everywhere shall be an Optimus hallmark. The school expects all members of the Optimus community to be respectful and courteous. Students are expected to obey the instructions of members of faculty. They will form a queue wherever necessary. Use of foul language is not permitted at any time. Physical or verbal bullying will be severely sanctioned. Visitors must be approached, welcomed and assisted.

Inappropriate public behaviour that spoils the school’s reputation will be severely dealt with. Vandalism, littering, possessing unacceptable objects (like weapons, fireworks, pornography) are some of the serious offences that will end up in the expulsion of the offender.

Deliberately missing the lessons and coming late for the classes will not be tolerated.

Discipline And Sanctions

In Optimus, punishment is not necessarily a first resort if the offence is of a less serious nature. Where it is used it would be a constructive endeavour. Informal Detention, Extra work, Community service are some of the corrective measures that are employed.

It is the considered policy of the Optimus School management that anyone who is not prepared to behave reasonably and sensibly must leave our community either permanently or until s/he decides to assume the responsibilities of studentship. Suspension and Expulsion may be awarded only by the Principal or a senior member of the staff nominated by the Principal. Both will be used sparingly and would usually result from repeated unacceptable behaviour or some very serious misconduct.

Corporal punishment and humiliating acts are not used under any circumstances.
