After Hour Independent Study

Optimus believes that each student should spend some time after the school hours in independent study, either at the school prep hour or at home.

We believe that such an effort

• will help to develop sound independent study habits
• will reinforce learning through further practice.
• Must be appropriate to the age, ability and developmental stage of the individual student and should be stimulating, interesting and fun to do.

Some sort of work will be assigned for all students. It will be made into a meaningful educational device based on quality assignments rather than quantity.

Week and Term boarders are given sufficient time and necessary guidance to do these during the evening prep hours.

Parents of Day Boarders should earmark time for independent study. The school encourages the parents to help their children with some difficult work (but please do not do it yourself) and advise the teacher if the child has any difficulty with homework

During holidays also some sort of academic work, usually in the form of Projects will be set for the students.

Academic Honesty Policy

Academic dishonesty includes acts which may result in a student gaining unfair advantage. It is our firm belief that ‘it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat’. The following is a list of such behaviour but is by no means exhaustive.

• Attempting unfair means and misbehaving in an examination setting like copying from another student or making information available to another student.
• Fabricating or falsifying data from experiments or projects.
• Submitting the same piece of work for more than one course or copying another student’s work as his or her piece of work
• Interfering in the scholastic work of another student for example by stealing laboratory reports, computer files and library materials.
• Altering grades awarded by a teacher

The school views these acts very seriously and the sanctions against such academic dishonesty usually tend to be severe.
